Anand Krish Ramani-Most Visionary CFOs from Asia 2026

Every accomplished finance leader understands numbers. The exceptional ones understand what those numbers reveal about businesses, markets and the decisions that shape their future. Anand Krish Ramani belongs firmly in the latter category. Beginning his career in audit, he built an unusually broad foundation that evolved through banking, corporate finance, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, investment strategy and large-scale business transformation across India, the GCC and Sub-Saharan Africa. Each chapter expanded both his technical expertise and strategic perspective, preparing him for increasingly complex leadership responsibilities. Today, as Group Chief Financial Officer of Al Rezayat Group, he oversees the financial and business strategy of one of the Middle East’s most diversified industrial conglomerates, spanning more than 13 countries and multiple sectors. His leadership continues to strengthen financial governance, accelerate transformation and enable long-term growth. In this conversation with The Portfolio Magazine, Anand reflects on the experiences, decisions and principles that have shaped his leadership across nearly three decades in finance.

Looking back on nearly three decades in finance, which experiences have shaped your leadership the most?

My career has taken me across banking, investment and industry, spanning India, the GCC and Sub-Saharan Africa, involving green-field setups, acquisitions and multi-market expansion. Every role brought different challenges, industries and perspectives, gradually shaping me into a more rounded finance leader. Looking back, becoming Group Chief Financial Officer has been the defining milestone because it brings together everything I have learned over the years. Leading the finance and strategy function of a diversified industrial group operating across multiple sectors and international markets requires balancing long-term vision with operational discipline every day.

One experience that particularly shaped my leadership was leading the digital transformation strategy of a fast-growing commercial bank in the GCC. Entering the market after established competitors meant we had to innovate quickly and identify opportunities to genuinely differentiate ourselves. That experience reinforced a lesson I continue to value today: leadership is built on continuous learning. Every new challenge presents an opportunity to grow, and curiosity remains one of the most valuable qualities any leader can possess.

“Leadership is built through continuous learning, thoughtful decisions and the courage to embrace change.”

What have financial transformations taught you about leading through complexity and uncertainty?

Every transformation presents moments when leaders must make important decisions before all the answers are available. Managing uncertainty while balancing the expectations of investors, boards, customers and employees is one of the defining responsibilities of financial leadership.

Over time, I have developed a disciplined approach that allows me to separate emotion from decision-making. Creating that objectivity makes it easier to evaluate facts, assess long-term implications and choose the path that creates sustainable value rather than reacting to immediate pressures. Consistency, transparency and thoughtful communication become especially important during periods of change because confidence grows when stakeholders understand both the rationale behind decisions and the direction the organisation is taking.

Those experiences have reinforced my belief that resilience is created through disciplined leadership, sound judgement and a willingness to remain focused on long-term outcomes even as circumstances continue to evolve.

Artificial intelligence is transforming finance. Which opportunities do you find most valuable?

AI represents one of the most significant opportunities the finance function has experienced in decades. Its value extends well beyond automation and cost optimisation. What excites me most is its ability to strengthen decision-making by combining internal business data with external market intelligence to generate deeper insights into customer behaviour, credit quality and future business performance.

These capabilities enable organisations to make more informed lending decisions, optimise working capital and strengthen overall risk management. At the same time, finance leaders have an important responsibility to build the analytical capabilities needed to integrate AI into everyday strategic decisions rather than treating it as a standalone technology initiative. Organisations that successfully combine data, technology and financial expertise will be better positioned to respond quickly, improve governance and create a sustainable competitive advantage.

What advice would you offer aspiring CFOs preparing for today's business environment?

Early in your career, embrace every opportunity to learn rather than becoming selective about job titles or industries. Professional qualifications provide an excellent foundation, yet meaningful growth comes from solving unfamiliar problems, working across different business environments and continuously expanding your perspective.

The role of the modern CFO extends far beyond financial reporting. Strategic thinking, technological awareness, communication, change leadership and the ability to collaborate across functions have become equally important. Adaptability sits at the centre of all these capabilities because business continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace. Leaders who remain curious, embrace change and keep learning will always be better prepared for the opportunities ahead.

Looking ahead, what kind of organisation and legacy do you hope to build?

My vision is to help build organisations that succeed because of strong systems rather than individual dependencies. Sustainable growth comes from scalable processes, intelligent use of technology and decisions supported by timely, reliable data. Continued investment in digital transformation, integrated enterprise platforms and intelligent automation will remain essential to achieving that vision.

Equally important are the people who bring those systems to life. Creating a culture where continuous learning, accountability and innovation become everyday habits enables organisations to remain resilient through change while consistently improving performance. If my leadership helps build an organisation that is stronger, more agile and capable of sustaining excellence long after my tenure, I will consider that the most meaningful legacy of my career.

“Strong organisations are sustained by resilient systems, empowered people and decisions guided by long-term value.”
