India is set for economic transformation powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), with the government forecasting that technology could add around $1.7 trillion to the national economy by 2025. According to PIB officials, AI will reform sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Making AI in India and Making AI Work for India.” The Government has faith in AI, believing it will make public services smarter, faster, and more inclusive, with innovation enhancing the lives of millions.
The IndiaAI Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2024, will play a major role with a budget of 10,371.92 Crore over the next five years. The mission is to increase access to advanced computing infrastructure, drive growth among AI startups, and facilitate the accountable use of technology. Officials stated that India has already deployed over 38,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) against an initial target of 10,000, marking a remarkable achievement that represents a significant leap towards affordable AI computing for researchers, developers, and enterprises.

India’s tech industry continues to experience growth, with the sector expected to reach $280 billion in annual revenue this year and employ more than six million people.
