Vivek Dodamane Nataraja -Most Visionary AI Leaders to Watch in 2026

As enterprise AI enters a new phase, conversations have gradually moved beyond experimentation, with organisations now focusing on how intelligent systems can become integral to everyday decision-making, accelerate innovation, and deliver measurable business outcomes. Success increasingly depends on the ability to combine advanced technologies with strong domain expertise, trusted data, and scalable enterprise architecture. Few professionals have experienced that evolution as closely as Vivek Dodamane Nataraja. Over the past two decades, he has grown from building data and business intelligence solutions to leading enterprise AI initiatives, helping organisations transform promising ideas into production-ready platforms that deliver tangible value. His work across technology and healthcare has strengthened one enduring belief: meaningful innovation begins by understanding the business before designing the technology. In this conversation with The Portfolio Magazine, Vivek shares how enterprise AI is reshaping leadership, enterprise transformation, and the future of intelligent organisations.

Your journey has evolved alongside the evolution of data and AI. What has helped you stay ahead of every technology shift?

When I began my career in 2005, I was working primarily with data. Over the years, that journey naturally expanded into analytics, business intelligence, cloud technologies and, today, enterprise AI. Looking back, every phase built on the one before it. Rather than chasing technologies, I’ve always focused on understanding how each advancement could solve real business problems.

Every organisation gave me an opportunity to grow in a different way. Building teams from five to fifty members, delivering enterprise-scale applications at Accenture, and, more recently, helping AI initiatives move from proof of concept to production have all been defining milestones. Seeing technology create measurable business value has always been the most rewarding part of my journey, and enterprise AI is simply the next chapter in that evolution.

“Technology creates its greatest impact when every innovation begins with a real business problem.”

Technology has remained constant while the business domains have evolved. How did healthcare reshape the way you apply technology?

Moving into healthcare and pharmaceuticals expanded my understanding of how technology creates value. While the technologies remained familiar, success required a deep understanding of clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, patient data, and compliance.

I invested time in learning the healthcare domain before designing solutions because meaningful innovation starts with understanding the business context. By combining domain knowledge with data engineering, business intelligence, cloud technologies, automation, and AI, I have built scalable, secure, and business-focused solutions.

More recently, I have been exploring how Generative AI and AI Agents can enhance healthcare by supporting intelligent decision-making, automating knowledge-intensive tasks, improving operational efficiency, and enabling more personalized user experiences. I see AI not as a replacement for people, but as a capability that augments human expertise while maintaining governance, security, and regulatory compliance.

My approach is to bring together domain expertise and emerging technologies to deliver practical, intelligent solutions that improve business outcomes, support healthcare professionals, and ultimately create better experiences for patients.

Enterprise AI is evolving rapidly. How has it changed the way you design solutions and create business value?

Enterprise AI has matured remarkably over the last few years. What began as isolated proofs of concept has evolved into an integral part of enterprise architecture, supporting analytics, automation, decision-making and business operations.

Today, I naturally evaluate where AI can enrich every solution, whether through intelligent data preparation, predictive insights, automation or conversational analytics. At the same time, the growing maturity of AI has elevated the importance of data quality, governance, and architecture, as strong foundations enable AI to deliver trustworthy outcomes.

Business intelligence and exploratory data analysis have evolved alongside this journey. AI now accelerates data exploration and insight generation, allowing teams to spend more time interpreting information, designing enterprise solutions and creating measurable business impact. Human expertise and AI complement each other, combining speed with business understanding to deliver better decisions.

Leading AI teams requires more than technical expertise. How do you help people embrace continuous technological change?

Technology evolves continuously, creating exciting opportunities for every professional to expand their capabilities. My role as a leader is to help teams recognise those opportunities and develop the confidence to embrace them.

I believe in coaching each individual according to their stage of growth. Experienced professionals enjoy ownership and the freedom to make decisions, while emerging talent benefits from regular mentoring and guidance. Equally important is creating an environment where learning becomes part of everyday work. As new technologies emerge, I encourage my teams to explore them through practical business use cases so learning always connects to meaningful outcomes.

Leading by example has always been central to my philosophy. Working alongside the team, removing obstacles and celebrating progress creates a culture where people grow together while delivering exceptional results.

As AI continues to reshape every industry, what advice would you share with tomorrow's technology leaders?

My advice is simple: begin with the business problem and let technology become the enabler. AI offers extraordinary opportunities, yet its greatest value lies in solving meaningful challenges and delivering measurable outcomes for customers and organisations.

Technical expertise will always matter, but curiosity, adaptability and continuous learning will define tomorrow’s leaders. Every new technology creates fresh possibilities, and professionals who combine a strong business understanding with emerging technologies will continue to shape the future. AI represents an exciting evolution in that journey, empowering people to solve increasingly complex problems and create lasting value across every industry.

“The future belongs to leaders who combine curiosity, business understanding and AI to create meaningful value.”
