On Thursday, India’s Renew Energy Global announced plans to invest approximately 820 billion rupees to expand its clean energy portfolio in Andhra Pradesh, a southern state. The company is preparing to sign agreements with the state government for projects involving solar manufacturing, pumped hydro, battery storage, and green ammonia.
This includes establishing a 6 GW photovoltaic ingot-wafer plant, a 2 GW pumped hydro facility, a green ammonia plant with an annual capacity of 300,000 tonnes, and five GW of hybrid renewable energy projects, such as wind-solar and solar-plus-storage systems.
This initiative aligns with India’s goal to double its non-fossil fuel power capacity to 500 GW. The total investment also comprises 600 billion rupees in new funding, supplementing the 220 billion rupees previously pledged in May for a hybrid renewable project, according to ReNew.
