The regional government of Tamil Nadu is taking significant and progressive steps to transform its local digital landscape and accelerate its artificial intelligence economy by introducing several major infrastructure projects across the state. In a recent assembly announcement, the Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services Minister R Kumar revealed the upcoming launch of the Vetri Tamil Nadu Super App, which is being developed at a total cost of ₹5 crore.
This unique and highly advanced mobile application will bring over 500 essential government services directly to citizens’ smartphones, making daily public governance much more accessible and user-friendly for everyone. Alongside this application, the state will invest ₹1 crore to establish an independent online portal specifically designed to collect valuable feedback and honest reviews from the public regarding these digital government services.
To boost local technological research, the Vetri Tamil Nadu Artificial Intelligence Centres of Excellence will be set up under a successful public-private partnership model via the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu. The first 2 specialised hubs are planned for Chennai and Coimbatore with a combined budget of ₹20 crore.
Furthermore, an ultra-high-performance GPU computing cluster will be built for ₹10 crore, giving local startups and small enterprises free access to crucial computational power. This specific initiative will dramatically lower entry barriers for smaller firms trying to develop new AI products.

The state is also launching TN DRIVE, a ₹3 crore initiative providing design, engineering, prototyping, and production support for deep-tech startups. Additional programs include an AI-enabled Tamil Internet Language Lab, automated e-office tools, smart health systems, agricultural schemes, and an official AI Advisory Council for growth.
