Earlier this month, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw championed the use of homegrown platforms, highlighting Zoho’s suite for creating documents, spreadsheets, and presentations to advance the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is actively advocating for Zoho’s indigenous Arattai Messenger, a versatile communication platform that provides text and voice messaging, multimedia sharing, audio/video calls, and story features, marketed as a strong, locally developed alternative to WhatsApp.
The app enables effortless meeting scheduling and participation, with mobile number registration for fast, secure onboarding.
Arattai Messenger ensures complete privacy with end-to-end encryption, making all calls and messages inaccessible, even to Zoho itself. Following Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s endorsement, the app, which was first launched in 2021, has seen a dramatic resurgence, quickly climbing the download charts across major platforms.
Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu revealed that Arattai’s traffic surged 100 times in just three days, with daily sign-ups soaring from 3,000 to 350,000. The company is now working rapidly to expand its infrastructure to prepare for another possible spike.
Although a significant upgrade was scheduled for November, support from government officials has accelerated Arattai’s growth. “We have ambitious plans ahead. Thank you for your support,” Vembu stated.
