Howard Lutnick, the United States Commerce Secretary, met with Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, in New Delhi for advanced bilateral trade discussions and strengthen economic cooperation between the United States and India. The meeting was confirmed by Eric Garcetti, the US Ambassador to India, who emphasised the importance of ongoing engagement between the two countries. He noted that continued dialogue between senior officials reflects the shared commitment to expanding trade and addressing key economic priorities.
The discussions come as both countries work toward finalising an interim trade agreement aimed at improving market access, reducing trade barriers, and resolving long-standing issues affecting businesses on both sides. The proposed agreement is expected to support smoother trade flows and encourage greater investment between the two economies. India and the United States share a strong and growing trade relationship, with bilateral trade spanning sectors such as technology, pharmaceuticals, energy, defence, and manufacturing. The United States is one of India’s largest trading partners, and both nations have expressed interest in further expanding economic engagement.
