According to the various media outlets, India is in talks with Russia for more S-400 surface-to-air missile systems after the astonishing success of Operation Sindoor.
PTI reports that President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India in December could lead to discussions about it.
In 2018, India signed a $5 billion deal with Russia for five S-400 systems, ignoring US warnings of possible sanctions under CAATSA.
Senior officials from India’s Defence Ministry will meet with their Russian counterparts to discuss the purchase of additional S-400 Air Defence Systems, aiming to enhance India’s defence capabilities.
The contract signed in 2018 for five S-400s includes two deliveries expected by the end of 2026. Another five batches of demand discussion are underway to enhance defence systems.
Sources told HT that India and Russia have agreed on the cost of five more S-400 systems, with annual price increases from 2018. Three will be purchased directly, while two may be manufactured in India by private firms under a technology transfer agreement, with final details still pending.

India will purchase additional S-400 systems through a government-to-government deal, with maintenance and repair facilities to be built in collaboration with Indian private firms. Officials denied reports of acquiring the S-500, which is still being developed in Russia.
