Odisha Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra recently travelled to New Delhi to hold a very important meeting with Union Minister Jitendra Singh. The main goal of their discussion was to create a strong, connected plan that uses Odisha’s rich natural, mineral, and coastal resources to create new jobs and boost the state’s economy through modern technology. Both leaders talked about how Odisha can match its growing potential in rare minerals, sea-based biology, and space technology with the grand scientific institutions run by the central government.
One of the important components of this growth strategy includes the Odisha Marine Biotechnology Research and Innovation Corridor, commonly referred to as OMBRIC. This project already links top schools like IIT Bhubaneswar, NIT Rourkela, and local universities together. Now, the state wants to bring in national departments like the Ministry of Earth Sciences and CSIR to turn coastal wealth into active businesses and deep research. To help this entire ecosystem grow, the state government is giving an extra 50 acres of land to expand the Institute of Life Sciences in Bhubaneswar, which will focus heavily on biotechnology applications.

Space technology is another big dream for the region. The ministers talked about working closely with India’s premier space agency, ISRO, to build a brand-new Space Research and Manufacturing Centre. This centre will be built using a public-private partnership model to invite global businesses to invest. Lastly, they talked about how Odisha would be incorporated into the rare earth corridor that was recently announced in the new Union budget.
