Wipro Launches AI Centre to Boost the Growth Strategy

Wipro Unleashes Claude AI Centre to Future-Proof Growth

Indian IT giant Wipro has launched a new Centre of Excellence (CoE) for applied artificial intelligence at its Bengaluru headquarters. This specialised hub focuses entirely on Anthropic’s Claude AI models to accelerate corporate AI adoption and build advanced industry platforms.

The move comes at a critical time for India’s $315 billion IT services sector, which faces intense pressure from AI-driven automation. In February, traditional tech firms lost billions in market value after Anthropic introduced an automated AI agent tool. This tool raised investor fears that generative AI could soon disrupt the industry’s labour-heavy business model.

Analysts at Jefferies note that while AI automation might shrink traditional IT services revenue in the coming quarters, it also opens new business avenues. It allows tech firms to expand their market by helping global clients rebuild legacy software and completely redesign their business workflows.

To stay competitive, Wipro plans to train 10,000 front-line delivery professionals to use Anthropic’s Claude models over the next 18 months. Beyond client projects, Wipro will integrate these AI tools internally to boost efficiency across its own finance, human resources, and sales teams.

Wipro is not alone in this race; its major rival, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), also partnered with Anthropic recently to launch a similar alliance aimed at scaling enterprise AI. By embedding Claude into its core operations, Wipro aims to pivot from traditional coding and maintenance to high-value AI consultation.
