Air Canada Appoints Anko Van der Werff as President and Chief Executive Officer

Air Canada announced today that Anko Van der Werff will become its next President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board by the end of January 2027. Mr Van Der Werff, who is presently the President and CEO of Scandinavian Airlines, takes over from Michael Rousseau, who had earlier announced his retirement after 19 years at Air Canada.  

He has outstanding international aviation industry experience, with a strong track record spanning 25 years, including his latest visionary executive experience as President & CEO of Scandinavian Airlines, CEO of Avianca, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer of Aeromexico, Senior Vice President Pricing & Revenue Management of Qatar Airways, and Commercial Director of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, United Kingdom & Ireland.

Anko is a Board Member and Chairman of Electrolux Group, IATA, Flightradar24, Eredivisie CV, Harvard Business School, The Climate Partnership for Aviation, and the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Sweden. Anko Van der Werff is an alumnus of Leiden University, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Law, and Harvard Business School, where he holds a Graduate degree in General Management.
