Ashok Leyland, a commercial vehicle specialist, has collaborated for about 7 to 10 years with CALB Group, a Chinese company specializing in battery technology for indigenous battery production.
The venture will meet in-house EV needs and address wider demand in automotive and energy storage markets.
Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland, stated that he is deeply committed to shaping the future of sustainable mobility in India. His strategic collaboration with CALB is a significant step toward creating a localized battery supply chain to promote electric vehicle adoption and reduce reliance on fossil fuels in India.
According to Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director & CEO of Ashok Leyland, the battery business will initially focus on the automotive sector and then expand to other sectors.

A Global Centre of Excellence will serve as a hub for research and development, advancing every aspect of battery technology.
