In a strategic move under the leadership of new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Intel has appointed Indian Origin Sachin Katti as the new CTO and AI head at the company. This move shows that Intel is serious about its AI goals, and this is a big step towards achieving those goals.
Sachin Katti will replace the former CTO Greg Lavender, who served in the office from 2021 to 2025. In his new role, Katti will be responsible for Intel’s AI strategy, overseeing the roadmap of Intel’s products and steering Intel Labs. On top of that, he will also be responsible for managing Intel’s engagement with emerging startups and the developer ecosystem, a critical element for fostering young talent at the grassroots levels.
This appointment is particularly important as this is the first time that Intel has assigned a full-time CTO for its AI development. This reflects an internal shift or restructuring of the company towards a model more dedicated to AI development. Previously, AI was not a standalone project but rather an extension of Intel’s data centre business. This shift is sudden and ambitious, and Sachin Katti is at the helm of it.

Intel hasn’t had the best financials for the last couple of years, and a sudden shift in core policies and leadership can change that; at least, that’s what the company expects. In less than 2 months, Intel has announced two major appointments. First, the CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, in March and now the CTO, Sachin Katti. Will it be enough to keep the company on track and usher it off in a new era where it can once again claim its top pedestal? Only time will tell.
