Musk Forms ‘America Party’ in Break From Trump and GOP

Elon Musk Launches 'America Party' to Challenge U.S. The "Two-Party Rule"

On Saturday, billionaire entrepreneur, SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk announced that he had formed a new party, the America Party, which represents a major political realignment, as well as an official separation from Donald Trump and the Republican Party. The announcement came a day after Trump signed the spending bill that Musk spoke out against on social media, highlighting the bill would increase the national debt by trillions.

In a post he made on X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote, “You want a new political party and you shall have it!”, and referenced a poll from the fourth of July that he posted, which received over 1.2 million responses, 65% of which supported some form of new party.

While Musk has not released any more detail on the America Party’s entire platform, he indicated he would focus on “two or three Senate seats and eight to ten House districts,” before any legislative impact.

Trump responded Sunday, saying he was “saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely off the rails” and predicting his efforts would fail just like past third-party movements.

Either way, Musk’s party is evidence of an increasing dissatisfaction with the political system in the U.S. and could signal the beginning of a legitimate third-party challenge.
