Uber Appoints Nikesh Arora to Its Board of Directors

Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks, Appointed to Uber's Board of Directors

Nikesh Arora, the CEO of Palo Alto Networks, has announced that he will be joining the Board of Directors of the globally renowned transportation company, Uber. Arora, aged 57, has been the Chairman and CEO of Palo Alto Networks, a prominent cybersecurity firm, since June 2018. His career spans significant roles, including serving as an angel investor from 2016 to 2018 and an advisor to SoftBank Group Corp. from June 2016 to December 2017. 

He held the position of president and COO at SoftBank from July 2015 to June 2016, and was vice chair and CEO of SoftBank Internet and Media from July 2014 to June 2015. Earlier, Arora spent a decade at Google, Inc., from December 2004 to July 2014, culminating as senior vice president and chief business officer from January 2011 to June 2014.

Arora’s extensive board experience includes current membership at Compagnie Financiere Richemont S.A., and past roles at Aviva plc (2007-2009), Bharti Airtel (2008-2014), Sprint Corp. (2014-2016), Colgate-Palmolive Company (2012-2014), SoftBank (2014-2016), and Yahoo! Japan (2015-2016). Ron Sugar, Uber’s independent Chairperson, noted, “Nikesh is a globally respected business leader with deep experience across technology, finance, and cybersecurity.” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi added, “Nikesh is one of the technology industry’s great executives: a strategic and disciplined operator, and a fierce competitor.” 

Arora expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Uber has already fundamentally transformed how people and goods move through cities, and I look forward to contributing to the company’s continued success.” For his role, Arora will receive a $60,000 annual cash retainer, restricted stock units valued at $300,000, and additional compensation for serving on the nominating and governance committee and compensation committee.
