India’s semiconductor ambitions are entering a new phase under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)’s Semicon India program. Reflecting this transformation, PM Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 on September 17 at Yashobhoomi in Delhi. The event itself runs for three days, 17-19 September, organised by SEMI along with the India Semiconductor Mission and MeitY, under the theme “Transform Tomorrow: Silicon to Systems, Building the Ecosystem.”

The scale is the real story: 500+ exhibitors, 243 international companies, 150+ speakers, delegates from 40+ countries, and over 15,000 square metres of exhibition space. SEMI’s calling it the largest edition since the event launched, roughly 30% bigger than last year.

MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan flagged two things as significant this time: three of the twelve semiconductor projects approved under Semicon India 1.0 have already moved into commercial production, and the government’s now rolling out Semicon 2.0, built around six pillars covering chip design, machines and materials, more fabs, strengthening the ATMP/OSAT industry, R&D, and talent development.

ISM CEO Amitesh Kumar Sinha also pointed to the bigger demand picture: global semiconductor demand is projected to roughly double from around $1 trillion to $2 trillion, with India’s own requirement expected to grow from about $100 billion to $200 billion, showcasing India’s growing ambitions in chip manufacturing.
