One of the most renowned motorcycle manufacturers in India, Royal Enfield, which is part of Eicher Motors, is making a major move in its quest for growth. The firm has recently announced plans to invest an enormous ₹22 billion ($232 billion) in the construction of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
The new plant will be set up in the Southern state of Andhra Pradesh. This development marks a major milestone for the company as it will be its first production unit outside its home state of Tamil Nadu. The construction of the facility will take place in two stages. The first phase is set to be completed by 2029, while the second phase is expected to be finished by 2032.
The plant would manufacture 900,000 motorcycles annually once it reaches its optimal operating level. There is no doubt that this initiative would significantly affect the corporation’s production capacity, which stood at around 1.46 million bikes annually as of the end of February. Moreover, the decision would create around 5,000 new job opportunities for locals.
