As Germany faces an aging workforce and a shortage of young workers, the country is rushing to India to bridge the skills gap. There is a lack of young workers in Germany to fill the gap caused by the retirement of existing staff. To sustain its economic prowess, Germany needs to hire 288,000 foreign workers annually, and it is now looking to India as a source of talent.
Whereas countries like the UK and the US are becoming increasingly stringent, Germany has gone in the opposite direction, recently increasing the skilled visa quota for Indians from 20,000 to 90,000 annually. This is a result of a desperate need for people with expertise ranging from healthcare to IT to skilled trades like carpentry and baking.
This is a great career path for young Indian workers, and they will also receive better pay. As per statistics, the median gross monthly income of Indians in Germany is around €5,393 (₹5.68 lakhs), which is 29% higher than the average German worker’s salary.
The pay gap is due to the fact that young Indian workers entering Germany are highly skilled, thereby contributing significantly to the market.
The Germans have been vocal about their views on Indians, and it is quite evident that they believe Indian talent is key to their success. Hence, Germany has emerged as a hot destination for aspiring Indians, offering them lucrative and secure prospects abroad.
The partnership is a win-win situation for both countries. The Germans get the much-needed workforce to keep their economy running, and the Indians get lucrative and highly paid jobs, even more than the Germans, and living facilities in Germany.
