Samsung Electronics Appoints New EVP of Retail Strategy

Samsung Electronics Appoints Sophia Hwang-Judiesch as EVP Retail Strategy

Samsung Electronics, one of the biggest technology companies in the world, has a global presence and caters its services to 100+ countries in the world. In an attempt to expand its global strategy, Samsung Electronics has appointed Sophia Hwang-Judiesch as executive vice president and global head of retail strategy. The company made the appointment public after an April 6th announcement. Hwang-Judiesch is a veteran of the Business-to-customer distribution and brings a lot of experience from her previous roles as the North American president of Tommy Hilfiger, President of Hudson’s Bay, and vice president of strategy at Ulta Beauty.

This appointment reflects a broader trend at Samsung of appointing top talent regardless of caste, colour, and creed into their top leadership. This was evident in a speech made by the Chairman of the company, Lee Jae-Yong, in a seminar, stating, “We must recruit and nurture top talent that surpasses the management team, regardless of nationality and gender.” He further stated that if necessary, Samsung will allow multiple and frequent personnel changes to maintain a competitive edge.
