Recently, Ultraviolette Automotive, an Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has unveiled that they are planning to increase its production with a new manufacturing facility near Hosur, Tamil Nadu, called the BIGGA Factory. The facility will be built at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri.
The company will invest around ₹779 crore in the factory over the next 4 to 5 years, is expected to complete it by Q1 2027, and will have the capacity to produce around 2.5 lakh vehicles a year. After 2029, the second phase is poised to be completed and could increase the total capacity to 5 lakh vehicles annually.
They are also planning to increase this to 5 lakh units in the second phase, which is expected to start in 2029. The new factory will help Ultraviolette to increase its production of both motorcycles and scooters. They also expect scooters and motorcycles to make up roughly half of its product mix over the next three to four years. The Tesseract electric scooter and upcoming Shockwave motorcycle can be part of this and are expected to play an important role in this growth.
Ultraviolette currently has a manufacturing facility near Bengaluru with a capacity of about 50,000 units a year. The new Hosur plant will work alongside it and benefit from the region’s strong automotive supply chain. They also mentioned in a statement that more than 90% of its components are already sourced locally, although some battery cells and magnets are still imported. It also plans to increase exports, which currently make up around 10-15% of its sales, to about 20-25% by 2030.
