Former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal launched Parallel Web Systems Inc., a cloud platform aimed at enabling artificial intelligence (AI) systems to conduct large-scale online research. Agrawal, dismissed by Elon Musk after his takeover of Twitter (now X) in 2022, founded the company in 2023 and has assembled a 25-member team in Palo Alto. The startup has secured $30 million in funding from notable investors like Khosla Ventures, First Round Capital, and Index Ventures.
Parallel powers millions of research tasks daily for startups and public enterprises, integrating web intelligence directly into platforms and agents. Its tools help automate workflows, find documents, debug issues, and enhance AI capabilities. Recently, Parallel launched its Deep Research API, which its founder claims surpasses both humans and advanced models like GPT-5 on challenging benchmarks.

Agrawal emphasises that the internet, as it exists today, was built for human use, but the next era belongs to AI. He envisions the web evolving into a system designed specifically for AI, supporting reasoning, computation, and verified sources. Parallel advocates for a new ‘Programmatic Web,’ with key principles including a unified infrastructure, declarative interfaces for AIs, transparent attribution of sources, and open markets rewarding contributions.
The company’s goal is to create an internet where AIs can directly access and organize information, credit sources, and reward contributors. Instead of traditional web browsing, AI systems will ask for information, which Parallel’s infrastructure will gather, process, and organize. This aims to make web data more accessible, fairer, and more efficient for AI use.
Parallel’s vision is about ‘building for abundance,’ fostering a web that supports AI-driven research and insights, transforming how machines interact with online data. This innovative approach could reshape the future of internet use, emphasizing automation, transparency, and economic incentives for contributors.
